Global Girl Media | Concept
Solo Project, all work here is my own
I overhauled the brand colours & homepage layout, helping to emphasis important aspects of the charity's work.
The design I created is responsive across 3 breakpoints.
Design a refreshed website for Global Girl Media, where young girls could go to find mentors, scholarships, paid internships & jobs in the media industry.
There are other stakeholders for GGM who are imporant to keep in mind, these are:
1. Donors giving to the charity to help fund a girl in Journalist training
2. Mentors who work as Journalists and want to help girls achieve and succeed int he field
For the purpose of this sprint, my work was based on assumption as we did not conduct any formal user interviews. I relied heavily on competitive analysis to help me decide what content was most relevant.
I focused on 2 key companies in the same space as GGM, they are:
Girl Effect and Women in Journalism
The Girl Effect
Nailed the balance between professionalism and laid back approach. Lots of really impactful and punchy data, which physically highlighted as you scrolled through the website.
Colour pallet made the information speak for itself & helped to highlight important text
Clear nav bar, with not too many options, doesn't overwhelm the user & highlights what Girl Effect do.
Women In Journalism
This site felt more corporate, almost like a newspaper site - which does make more sense as they publish articles written by several female Journalists.
The site feels more professional, which fits their mission of helping women go further in the journalism industry.
The colour pallet was varied and their logo again reminded me of a newspaper. Each page was very information heavy and informative - which made it sometimes difficult to decipher.
So, who are GGM? What does their brand encompass? What are they trying to represent?
Looking through the content of their existing website, some key traits became clear to me.
Also through my competitive analysis, I picked up insights into what GGM should be aiming for in their brand image too. I summarised this all into some key words below which formed the basis for my moodboard.

Key themes were pulled from my moodboard to help define the colour scheme for GGM website
The overwhelming colour that kept coming through was red, followed by tones of orange. This represented empowerment for young girls in Journalism.
The neutrals I chose compliment the red and orange tones, to give balance and depth to the site.
For typography, I opted for a traditional serif font found in newspapers, paired with a more modern sans serif.
Focusing on the industry of GGM, I created a speech bubble shape for use on images, to highlight the charity giving a voice to young girls in the industry
I also restricted colour use to highlight important information on the pages
